The US holiday known as “Thanksgiving Day” recently passed by, as the calendar marches inexorably onward. This is often a good time to take stock of our physical and mental lives.
I am thankful for the comforts of my home, even though I sometimes complain about the level of maintenance required to keep it in working condition. I often should probably “call the guy” to get some repairs done, but instead find myself seeking the challenge of solving some new problem.
This year, I am a little thankful for YouTube. Maybe it is goofy, but I have found some new teachers on YouTube, who educate me on topics that I did not know I cared about. Sometimes they teach me how to do a repair that I need to try; and sometimes they just entertain me with their approaches to various problems.
I am thankful for the opportunities I have had through the years to learn from many great teachers. Surprisingly, I find that I sometimes learn most from people who are trying to learn something from me.
I am thankful for all of you, my readers. I truly appreciate the feedback and suggestions you send to try to help me write more and better ideas.
I am thankful that every television set, radio, and computer has an OFF and a MUTE control. Perhaps the most important function of any of these devices is our ability to make them stop when we choose.
I am thankful for friends. Having traveled to a lot of new places in the past 20 years, I discovered that there are smart, friendly, and honest people everywhere. It is very difficult to stay in touch with every new friend, but I hope they know that they are still important to me, even if we are not constantly communicating.
I am thankful for my family. They did not choose me, but they do choose to tolerate and love me without a lot of drama.
Last, I am thankful for my wife, who did choose me; which will always make me question her judgement.
